When it comes to Christmas, no winter evening is complete without your nearest and dearest, a bottle of red and a snuggle on the sofa with a good old Christmas movie.
So, whether you’re a film fanatic or devoted to the classics, here are a few of our festive film favourites to fill the chilly season evenings and get in the festive spirit. Enjoy!
Love, Actually (2003)
Love it or hate it, you can’t deny this little rom-com is possibly the most Christmassy film of modern times, and promises a rollercoaster of tears, smiles and laughter from start to finish. With grand romantic gestures, family bonds and cheeky singletons – this is surely what every Christmas is about, and is the perfect snuggle-down flick, whatever the season!
Scrooge (1951)
Here’s one for the Scrooge’s amongst us, and it’s an absolute classic! Regarded as the original adaption of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol – it’s the perfect Christmas Eve movie for all the family. Plus, Alistair Sim plays one of our favourite Scrooges, ever, so if you haven’t seen it – make it top of your must-watch list this year!
Home Alone (1990)
Let’s be honest, have you ever witnessed a Christmas where this hasn’t graced your TV at least once? Thought not. So, here’s one for the kids… and the adults. The McCallister family are going away for Christmas, tickets – check. Presents – check. Childen – oh, wait! They forgot Kevin. Join Kevin as he reinvents Christmas, with plenty of mischief, trouble and of course, burglar bashing! Home Alone is the ideal film to while away a snowy Sunday afternoon.
Die Hard (1988)
When you ask an action-lover what their best Christmas movie is, chances are – they regard Die Hard as pretty near the top! Here’s why – a Christmas Eve party in the Nakatomi Plaza is rudely interrupted by Alan Rickman’s crew of thieves-disguised-as-terrorists, and of course, good old Brucy’s vacationing NYC detective (John McCane) has the run of the building to try and save the day! This is definitely the flick for all you romantic-hating-action-loving types!
It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)
The traditional choice of all Christmas movies, and we all know why! If you haven’t seen it, you must, and if you’ve already seen it 147 times – what’s one more, eh? A heart-warming story with one of the most perfect endings of all film-history, it’s no surprise why this little Christmas movie has become a feel-good classic.
