2016 was a great year for film, and this year is promising to follow in its footsteps. 2017’s blockbusters and comic book films have been awaited by fans around the world since they were announced.
Beauty and the Beast
This highly anticipated live action adaptation of a Disney’s animated classic film comes to theatres in March. Starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as Beast, it tells the tale of a prince trapped in the form of a beast and a young woman named Belle, who has the potential of breaking the prince’s curse.
Stephen King’s Adaptations
2017 will see two Stephen King adaptations in the theatres. A remake of the 1990’s It starring the infamous clown Pennywise and The Dark Tower. Both films have stirred great anticipation from fans, who anxiously await to see these classic books on screen.
Comic Book Films
Both Marvel and DC Comics have quite a few superhero films coming out this year. Starting with The LEGO Batman Movie in February, and ending with Justice League in November, comic book films continue trending this year. A reboot of Spider-Man, another Wolverine film, Logan, much anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, and Thor: Ragnarok are this year’s Marvel films to watch. With DC Comics, Wonder Woman and Justice League are very promising looking films.
Blade Runner 2049
Thirty years after the occurrences of the 1982 cult classic, Blade Runner 2049 tells the story of a new blade runner, played by Ryan Gosling, called Officer K. His path leads him to Rick Deckard, a blade runner missing for 30 years.
Science Fiction Films
Films like Arrival and The Martian were big hits in 2016, and the Space Sci-Fi trend is here to stay. This year, films about life on Mars and the futuristic possibility of space travel will once again feature in the cinema. You can look forward to Life, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Space Between Us, and Alien: Convenant.
Star Wars: Episode VIII
The eighth instalment in the Star Wars saga continues the story of Rey and her journey with Poe, Finn, and Luke Skywalker. After the success of Episode VII and the most recent Rogue One spin-off, fans have been awaiting Episode VIII anxiously.
